Tom Miller lone Democratic AG to stand with Big Oil on DAPL suit

“We could not be more disappointed in Attorney General Tom Miller,” said Bold Iowa director, Ed Fallon. “In siding with Big Oil against the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Miller also stood against the many Iowa farmers and landowners forced to fight DAPL as their land was stolen through eminent domain. Miller also stood against the many Iowans working to address the climate crisis. If the pipeline leaks or breaks, we’ll remember that Miller stood against protecting Iowa’s water, too.”

Former state lawmaker Ed Fallon, who runs the nonprofit Bold Iowa, said he hopes Biden will act to block a proposal to double flows in the Dakota Access pipeline, which crosses Iowa. During the campaign, Biden told Iowans he had opposed the pipeline.  “Given President Biden’s clear and strong statements in opposition to (Dakota Access), he needs to step in immediately and prevent the proposed expansion,” said Fallon. “He gave us his word.”

In advance of the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, Biden told climate activists with Bold Iowa that he opposed the Dakota Access Pipeline. “Take my word. I’ve never broken my word. I’ve been opposed to the pipeline to begin with,” Biden told Bold Iowa’s Kathy Byrnes and Ed Fallon.
