Bird Dog: Margaret Vernon

US Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) spoke at a coffee shop. Margaret Vernon questioned him on his climate plan. Check out the video Margaret shot of his response. Margaret had a chance to speak with Bennet later and writes, “In talking with Bennett later to clarify, he did say we have to do everything we can to address climate change. We need to work on measures that can’t be changed whenever the president changes, and he’d take executive measures to get things done ASAP.”

Bird Dog: Margaret Vernon

US Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) spoke at a house party near Winterset. Margaret Vernon writes: “Bennet was impressive in a number of ways. Great positions on lots of stuff. Very smart, ties a lot together. He kept not calling on me, and before I did get to ask a question, he brought climate change up himself (but not early in the discussion). He said how important it is that, in Colorado, he talks with ranchers and farmers who don’t want to talk about climate change, but who are very worried about the weather, droughts, and fire. They’re worried they won’t have land to pass down to their children because of all that.

“When I did get a chance to ask Bennett a question, I asked if he believed that climate is a true emergency and asked if he supported a fee on carbon. He didn’t really answer either question directly. He said he thinks we need to work locally and in our states since the federal government is iffy right now. He agreed that climate is critical, but thinks the Green New Deal is a little too much.”
