Why I’m marching: I’m marching because Iowa can do better than it has. We need to unify all the people in our state. The most important area of common ground on is our water. When Iowans want to do something important, we can come together, like we did to allow gays and lesbians to marry. We were one of the first states to do that. We could be one of the first states to shut down a pipeline that never should have been built and that threatens our water.

About me: I’ve been involved with working against the Dakota Access Pipeline since it first started in 2014. Before that, I was helping in the effort to stop the Keystone Pipeline. What they’ve done here in Iowa — taking land from private landowners — is wrong. I’m a Meskwaki, and we’re private landowners in Iowa, too, so we need to be concerned and continue to do what we can.
