April 15, 2021 Dear President Biden and Vice President Harris — We write on behalf of Bold Iowa regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). As of last week, Dakota Access has begun work on its pumping station near Cambridge, Iowa, with the intent of doubling the flow of oil. We ask you to immediately shut down DAPL before the expansion proceeds any further. We ask this for two reasons. First, in response to repeated questioning from Bold Iowa activists in 2019, you both spoke clearly

The escalation of climate change, coupled with the decision this week by Judge Boasberg to shut down DAPL, opens the door to a new conversation about Iowa’s role in addressing the climate crisis. Geri, you are in a unique position of leadership and influence. It is no exaggeration to say that, at this moment, more than any other Iowan, you could have an immensely profound impact on the climate crisis.
Hello Bold Iowans, We have an important question for you (scroll down.) But first, there are two big pieces of news to share — one good, one bad. Earlier this week, there was much excitement over a federal judge’s decision to grant the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s request to strike down the Dakota Access Pipeline’s (DAPL) federal permits. The judge ruled that the Army Corps of Engineers must complete a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Hopefully, the judge’s next action will be to shut down the

In the fight to save all that we know and love from climate chaos, it sometimes may seem like we're spinning our wheels. Yet every once in awhile, Energy Transfer, the corporation behind the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), will let slip a truth that lets us know we truly are making a difference.
The Gazette Excerpt: In Iowa, at least two dozen objections have been filed with regulators, including one from the state Justice Department’s Office of Consumer Advocate pushing back against the company’s request that the utilities board waive a public hearing. Go here to file your own objection.

CALLING ALL PIPELINE OPPONENTS! WRITE TO THE IUB! We need as many pipeline opponents as possible to write to the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) and ask the board to stand strong against the aggressive tactics of Dakota Access. The pipeline company has been pushing officials in Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota, and North Dakota to double the amount of oil flowing through the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). We can and must stop them. CLICK HERE FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SEND A LETTER TO THE IUB. You’ll

Since June, Dakota Access has been pressuring the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) to allow it to double the flow of oil through the Dakota Access Pipeline. To its credit, the IUB has refused to be pushed or rushed. In September, IUB members Geri Huser and Nick Wagner voted to require Dakota Access to file an amendment to its permit.
Meanwhile in other states, Big Oil continues to push hard for legislation to punish peaceful, non-violent pipeline protesters. Last year's fight at the Iowa Statehouse recently garnered some attention in Wisconsin, where our coalition with labor has not gone unnoticed.
“Given the absolute urgency of the climate crisis and our concern about a million species that will soon be extinct if we don’t act to reverse this crisis immediately, we felt totally justified to be there and to confront Republican donors and the president himself to take action to address climate change, before it’s too late,” said Miriam Kashia of 100 Grannies for a Livable Future, one of the five arrested.
Over 11,000 people and eighteen presidential candidates are expected to attend Saturday's Polk County Steak Fry. We plan to bird-dog every politician there on one or more aspects of the climate crisis, and to make a strong showing for climate action before local, national, and international media, too. If you're coming and would like to help, let us know ASAP.
